On March 6th, the New Jersey Arts and Culture Renewal Fund hosted a unique and enriching event. Unlike their usual daytime gatherings, this event took place in the evening over a shared meal, offering a more intimate and relaxed setting for attendees to connect and engage with one another.
Guests enjoyed light bites and wine and mingled with fellow community members, artists, educators, funders, and grantees upon arrival. Attendees transitioned into dinner, accompanied by a guided conversation. This portion of the event was designed to foster meaningful dialogue through thought-provoking questions on identity, the current cultural landscape, allyship, and the lasting impact of history on the present day. The discussions created a safe space for attendees to explore these important topics together, helping to build a stronger sense of community and shared understanding.
The conversation continued with a dynamic panel discussion featuring Ezra Ezzard, Executive Director of Crossroads Theatre Company, and Melina Garcia, Founder and Executive Director of United Children’s Music Project. The discussion, moderated by Lynne Toye, Executive Director of the New Jersey Arts and Culture Renewal Fund, provided valuable insights into the role of arts and culture in shaping communities. The speakers shared their experiences and perspectives, offering thoughtful reflections on the challenges and opportunities facing the arts today.
As The Fund continues to explore how arts and culture can reshape communities, shift systems, and foster cultural understanding, events like this highlight the power of collective dialogue.
The Fund is also celebrating significant milestones this year, marking its 5th anniversary and gaining 501(c)(3) status, officially becoming its own nonprofit organization. In 2024 alone, the Fund awarded over $1.2 million in grants to 115 organizations, and since its inception in 2020, it has distributed more than $10 million in grants to support the arts and cultural community.
This salon was more than just a conversation—it was an opportunity to connect with the ideas, stories, and people that keep the arts alive across the state. The Fund looks forward to continuing to foster these important conversations and nurturing the strength and diversity of the voices that enrich New Jersey arts community.
